HongKongCupid aims to help its members meet people from, or with heritage from, Hong Kong. Some of its members are interested in language exchange, others in friendship, although most are looking for dates, potentially even to marry and live abroad.

If this sounds like something you could be on board with, Hong Kong cupid has plenty to offer its members, including communication tools, in depth profiles and excellent search facilities. However, membership numbers aren’t as extensive as its big sister: ChinaLoveCupid. Still, if you’re only interested in meeting people in Hong Kong, this is the ideal place to do it.

It is a place of mingling cultures, where east meets west, and technology meets history. Hong Kong Cupid claims to be a leader in online dating for Hong Kong locals, and it’s a believable claim. The majority of its members appear to be in Hong Kong, although there are also foreigners who are interested in talking and meeting up. At the time of writing this review, there were only a couple of hundred members online, although we’ve seen more on other visits. The number of people who are online and ready to talk can depend a lot on what time you sign in, so it’s worth checking back if things are a little quiet.

The site is accessible in English as well as Cantonese, so you don’t need to worry if your linguistic skills don’t quite suffice. For Platinum members, the site will translate your messages for you, so anyone you wish to talk to will understand what you’re saying. Since the level of English in Hong Kong is relatively high, you’ll often find that members can write back without the aid of a translator, but this isn’t always the case. Cantonese is the first port of call for chat, but that won’t stop many people.

You can build a really detailed profile on HongKongCupid, and the search engine allows you to get into all the nooks and crannies of your preferences to really hunt for a person who suits your way of thinking. Meanwhile profile pictures are mixed, quality wise, but are usually of a high standard.

Members can also upload multiple photos to show off all their best angles. Each profile you visit will display a small table of information, showing how you match up with a member. You can therefore easily see what you might have in common, which is a good place to break the ice.

The site does lack video options, which is unfortunate, and there aren’t quite as many community features as we’d like. Still, if you’re not interested in those things and simply want to chat to people in Hong Kong in a bid to make friends and maybe go on a date, this site won’t go far wrong. Prices are very fair, it’s easy to use and there are enough active members to keep you satisfied.
