Fancy finding a Chinese friend? Of course you do! That’s the main mission of ChineseFriendFinder, although we also have a suspicion that they’re hoping you might become more than just friends. Actually, this is a dating site which aims to link up members who are looking to date people from China or people with Chinese heritage from across the globe. It offers some great community features, as well as all the communication tools we’d hope for. What’s more, it’s actually very reasonably priced. Sounds like a winner, right? Well actually it’s certainly a contender, though it’s not perfect. Let’s take a look at this website in more detail to dissect its innies and outties.
The site is one of many in the Friend Finder Network, so you can rely on the fact that they know what they’re doing. This is evident in the features they provide, which cover all the main bases for most online daters.
You can build a decent profile, upload pictures, search and chat in a variety of ways. Prices are fairly low, particularly if you take out the longer contracts for gold membership, which comes with an additional 6 months for free.
The free membership allows you to perform searches and build a profile but, if you wish to take a look at other members’ profiles or communicate in any way, then you’ll need to pay to upgrade. This is a bit disappointing because other sites will at least allow you to read over a profile before upgrading. After all, how are you meant to know if you like someone before you’ve found out anything about them?
If you do upgrade, then you unlock the full host of features, and you can add additional features to your account. For a somewhat considerable fee, you can allow free members to reply to you. Though this isn’t cheap, it will mean that you can speak to a lot more members which other people cannot contact.
In terms of online help, there’s an FAQ or you can contact support, as well as blogs and group chats. We were particularly happy to see the group chats being used, as these are often not available with dating sites, or nobody uses them. These rooms help you to get in touch with people in a laid back atmosphere where it’s your engagement with the topic which encourages friendships, rather than just your profile.
Many of the members on the site have taken the time to update their profile and upload photos, which you are also encouraged to do. This site focuses a bit less on ‘matching’ you with other members than some of the other main sites in this category, but you can easily work out whether someone is suitable or not from the information they provide on their profile page. If you like a few members enough, then you could add them to a list of your Favorite Members, which allows you to easily see when they’re online and therefore get in touch quickly.
Although ChineseFriendFinder sets out to focus on Chinese members, you’ll also find members from other parts of Asia, as well as America, Canada, the UK and other countries around the world. At times, this can be frustrating if you’re only looking for Chinese friends or dates, but you should manage to sort through them.
It would also be pretty handy if the site had some more information on Chinese culture and dating so that its non-Chinese members could have a better sense of how such things work, as dating is often culturally specific. Still, it ticks a lot of the boxes we’d like to see and we feel it offers very good value, particularly if you’re happy to get a long term contract.
